Of Chasing Traffic and For The Love of Writing

Three of the influenza bloggers were very busy chasing traffic early this week. We even competed against each other. Bloggista wrote about it here, and Thirdworldgeek had his take here, too. If you don’t know what I mean, just take a look at my last four posts. Names, names, names. These are the names of those who passed the October 2009 CPA Board Exams.

How To Come Up With A Good Blog Post In Just 30 Minutes

How to come up with a good blog post in just 30 minutes? Can you do it? Well, think about an essay question in high school wherein you have to pass your paper in 30 minutes, finished or unfinished. I’m sure you’ve done it. But whether it’s good or badly written, the teacher is your judge. In a blogger’s case, the readers are the judges.

Actually, I’m pressing for time as of this moment. In 30 minutes, a very important meeting will have to start. So while waiting for my boss and colleagues to arrive, I write this post. Here are my 5 suggestions in how to come up with a good blog post in just 30 minutes.

The Blog, The Blogger, And The Passion

“Blog about your passion.” I am sure you have heard of it. I heard of this statement many times before when I first started out and the blogs that I read then were mostly not involved in the monetization wave. And so I started with some “Thoughts” blog, and wrote just about anything that comes to mind. The first comment I received made my eyes twinkle and my heartbeat faster. My fingers were aching to type more.

What was it that I was passionate about? Am I blogging about my passion? Plenty of us probably don’t know about niche blogging when we started out, so our early blogs were of the general type. Or shall we say, a little of everything.

Not In My Blogroll

If you look at my sidebar, you won’t find my blogroll. It used to be there, but I decided to transfer it to another page. The long list won’t be a good thing to watch, as it disrupts the balance and the beautiful design of this blog. I know, I know. Some readers out there would say that there’s something wrong with my theme because the side bar is down under. I think the problem is with the browser and the settings of your screen display. But maybe, I really have to change theme soon.

Looking Back At Past Posts – Part 1

Admittedly, there aren’t many posts here unlike the early days of this site. And sometimes, the posts that I made were targeted at search engine users. Board exam results here, boxing results there. These led me to reread one of my early posts: For whom do you blog?

I guess we have our various reasons for blogging. It may not be as noble as others would expect us to do. Why do we blog in the first place? I got my 5 reasons why I blog. You may even have yours too and wrote about it. Have you read the article about blogging’s effect to the brain? No, blogging won’t be your entry to the mental hospital. LOL!

Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2009

I’ve nominated some blogs in the 2008 edition and was an observer in the 2007 version. Like any other blogging events that I’ve heard while not actually participating in person, everything was just forgotten. Until Ms. Janette Toral approached our lonely table during the after-event party of iBlog5 and told us about her writing project.

I promised her that I’d join the project (and hopefully the EB party and the raffles, too). So, here are my 10 nominees for the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2009:

The iBlog5 Experience

A few weeks ago, I learned of the iBlog5 over at Dexter’s Techathand.net. I immediately contacted my friend, the Third World Geek, and asked him if he wanted to sign up. “No problem” he said. In our 3++ years of blogging anonymously, this time we decided to give this blogging summit a try. The iBlog5 event (May 9, 2009 at the Malcolm Hall of UP Diliman) was the first real blogging event that that we’ve attended.

I woke up early to fetch my friend. We wanted to be one of the first registrants so as not to miss the freebies. (Yay, we’re PGBs here!) I also wanted to see how UP Diliman looks like. Having graduated from UP High in Cebu 18 years ago, I just heard tales from my classmates who went there to study in the Diliman Campus. The Campus is huge. I saw familiar names of the buildings, similar to the section names in our High School. There were joggers too, and they reminded me to shape up. That’s how early we were.

Sports, Blogging and Online Video Streaming

A few months ago, I converted my other site, a blog that was chasing the Busby SEO Test challenge, into a Sports Blog. I did it so that I can better express my thoughts on certain sports events without getting “off-topic” on this blog. I was also avoiding duplication and crisscrossing of topics like my early posts on SEO. And so I just posted entries like a sports analyst, making predictions here and there. It’s fun, easy to do and not much thinking required. 300-400 words post is easy especially if you are writing about a sport you have followed for a long time.
