I got my Nokia N82 last Friday and it’s been three long years since I upgraded. My Nokia 6230i is already in bad physical shape but it functions fully well. Good thing I can purchase the old phone for P1, and got this N82 for free on a 30-month locked-in period with Smart for plan 1800. N82 sells at P16,000 to P18,000 ($350 – $400) in the local market. It was first introduced in the Philippines in the last quarter of 2007.

What I like about Nokia N82

It is the best phone offered at essentially low price. It comes free in some plan packages. They say that the features are similar to N95. All I need, or I think I need in a phone right now are in this unit. The physical design is fine with me, though I requested for the color black. Too bad the color I wanted is not readily available.

It is the Wifi and the camera that really sold me out. The call and message features are too basic. The music is fine, but it drains a lot of battery. In this time where connectivity is the in-thing, this phone is surely not lacking of the right punch. And what’s with the camera? Now I can take better picture anytime and post them in my blog. Here’s a sample pic:

What I don’t like about Nokia N82

There are too few color choices. A black and gray combination, or silver and black would surely catch attention. The key pads are too small. I’m so getting used to the bigger pads of the 6230i. I really had difficulty sending SMS. And there are no shortcuts to voice calls. It will take me a few clicks more before I’d make a call to a number in my contacts.

It’s kinda slippery too. I fear it might slip out from my pocket and hopefully not into the wrong hands. I also don’t know how the camera reacts to impact.

Perhaps what I am experiencing now is simply part of the pains in phone upgrades. I still don’t know any easier way to transfer my contacts info. Thanks to their lengthy users’ guide, it sure is of great help.

Conclusion

For the non-techies, it’s the camera and video features that matters most here, aside from the fact this phone is packed with excellent features. For the price and features, I highly recommend this one.
