Happy New Year 2010 my friends! In a few hours from now, my cellphone will be filled with text messages from New Year well-wishers. Half of them could be listed in my cellphone’s address book. Half would only reflect the number. “Hu u?”, should I text back? Or should I only reply with the standard, “Happy New Year, too!”?

The first New Year’s text message I got for today is from a friend who now resides in Dumaguete City.

“A HAPPY LIFE is when you
expect less,
give more,
need less,
laugh a lot,
dream big,
work hard,
play often and
be thankful.
Wishing you a HAPPY LIFE in 2010.”

I know I saved some of last year’s messages. But the virus got them. All of the messages stored in my Nokia N82 got deleted. My other phone had a few Christmas and New Year’s messages left. Here’s one message I composed sometime in 2007 and sent to that same friend mentioned above.

“GOD makes all things beautiful in His time. May you delight in Him and may He’ll give you the desires of your heart. Happy New Year to you and to your family! Cheers for 2008!”

Do you just forward New Year’s text messages and quotes, or do you personalize the message? I will post some unique text messages here later. Cheers for 2010!

“We may receive the same New Year’s message year after year, but we we’ll always receive various kinds of blessings. Have a prosperous New Year ahead of you!”

In a few hours from now, it will be another year again. I don’t know much about your year 2008 but mine was pretty exciting. There were ups and downs, frustrations and encouragements, happy days and of tears, bright skies and storms.

There are some things I failed to do in 2008. I missed my $100 adsense goal by $5. Subscriber counts didn’t increase that much. I haven’t put up a webhost for two of my other domain names. Traffic decreased and my sites were down many times. I only got a few posts this December. Comments had become rare. I even wondered if this site had been hacked because two legit comments had disappeared. My bloghopping time decreased too.

But I look forward to 2009 with high hopes. And I wish you all my friends a happy and prosperous new year!

Have you formulated your New Year’s Resolution already? It is 9 more days to go before 2009 comes. We’ve got to change this and that. Do this and that. Woe her and her. Buy this, sell that. And just like the last years, we have some of those so-called New Year’s resolutions. If you haven’t made up your mind yet, here are 50 New Year’s resolution ideas I gathered from many people (some of which I even had in my list in the past):

In 2009, I will:

1.	Trim the fat and firm up those muscles
2.	Stop smoking (this is not mine. I haven’t tried a stick since birth)
3.	Exercise regularly
4.	Get drunk no more
5.	Blog less, make more money
6.	Spend less, save more
7.	Report to work ahead of my boss
8.	Tear up the credit card on New Year’s day
9.	Sport a new hairstyle (straight hair instead of curls)
10.	Color my hair blonde
11.	Grow a beard or a moustache
12.	Plant herbs in my backyard
13.	Learn a new language (Japanese perhaps)
14.	Visit another country
15.	Visit a far-away province in the Philippines (Basilan?)
16.	Plant at least 10 trees per month starting January
17.	Read a new book a month
18.	Learn a new song
19.	Learn to play the guitar
20.	Grow at least 2 inches
21.	Aim to be a blogging superstar
22.	Learn videography
23.	Attend photography classes
24.	Learn how to cook
25.	Brush my teeth at least three times a day
26.	Eat more vegetables
27.	Take vitamins regularly
28.	Go to the gym at least thrice a week
29.	Share the gospel to at least three persons a month
30.	Train rigorously in a chosen sport
31.	Have more time with family
32.	Spend more intimate moments with wifey
33.	Buy a new and bigger bed
34.	Save gas. Go, walk.
35.	Stick to budget
36.	Get a new gf/bf (from a youth)
37.	Learn scuba diving
38.	Beat my boss in golf
39.	Be slow on rant, and be quick on praise
40.	Study harder and beat the guys at the top 10.
41.	Find a better-paying job
42.	Find a job with less pressure
43.	Attend at least one writing workshop
44.	Do an act of kindness to the enemy
45.	Drink less coffee
46.	Slow down on sweets
47.	Read the Bible daily
48.	No longer wear wet socks
49.	Always make use of my Sun Cellular for long calls.
50.	Review my progress on my resolutions every week for fifty-two weeks.

As for me, I’d skip the “lose weight” and the “exercise” things as part of my resolutions. I have not really kept my resolutions in the past. Much as I would like to, but it seems that everything is forgotten and forsaken as early as February. Discipline is the key, they say. And I think that in order for you to really fulfill your New Year’s resolutions is to keep them public and have people close to you remind you more often. See no. 50.

Happy New Year’s Day, everyone! I wish you all the best in 2009! May you make good with your own New Year’s resolutions!
