May 2008 Philippine CPA Board Exam Results

The results of the May 2008 Philippine Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Board Exam is posted here. Feel free to scroll down and read more. This is for the exams held last May 11-12 and 18-19, 2008 in the different cities in the Philippines. I felt like posting the results here because I once took the CPA board exam and passed it on my first take in October 1995. Whew! How time flies so fast!

Passing the CPA board exam is one of my life’s greatest moments. I remember that day when the results came in the paper, a neighbor visited our house and brought the good news. I rushed to the nearest newsstand and there grabbed a Philippine Star, the only one at that time that carried the complete and readable results. (We don’t have the internet yet at that time). I was so happy for myself and for my friends who made it. I was even happier for my friends who landed on the top three.

I know the thrill and excitement of waiting for the results. Even non-takers, friends and relatives of examinees are excited of browsing the results hoping for a familiar name. My staffs here are busy surfing the net for the results. I gave them the result as soon I got the file from a friend.

To the new CPA’s, my congratulations! Welcome to the fold!

The PRC announces that 1,268 out of 4,651 (27%) passed the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination given by the Board of Accountancy in the Cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Legaspi.

This is one of the exciting things in blogging. My site is barely half month old, and is now at the doorsteps of the Composed Gentleman. Oh, Baby! I got a nomination for Week 98’s Filipino Blog of the Week.

What do I have here to deserve the nomination? In all honesty, I don’t know. I am just starting to fill the pages of this site and slowly promoting it through blog visits and sensible commenting. And if you look at my blogroll, most of these are mine and my friend’s sites. I guess I have to make a separate page for linky loves. Compassion Alumni: Cebu Launching

Compassion PH-900 started in our church sometime in 1984. Our Church is one of the first projects opened in Cebu. I was barely 10 years old then but I remembered envying the sponsored kids my age for they always have various activities.

Now, 24 years later, the Alumni Association of Compassion in the Philippines launched the Cebu Chapter. My wife, an alumni herself, helped organized the launching. The purpose is for each Compassion alumni to be an advocate for the poor and the needy. Being beneficiaries themselves, and have succeeded, it’s now their turn to reach out and give back.

My wife and I signed a commitment form. But if anyone out there wants to contribute and sponsor a child, you may do so by visiting the website of Compassion International or just clicking on the link below.

Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training.

Today, Compassion helps more than 1 million children in 24 countries.

Blogging’s Effect On The Brain

In a study in 2005 from two doctors, Fernette Eide M.D. and Brock Eide M.D M.A of Eide Nuerolearning Blog, they concluded that blogging is good for the brain. In summary, here are their findings:

1. Blogs can promote critical and analytical thinking
2. Blogging can be a powerful promoter of creative, intuitive, and associational thinking
3. Blogs promote analogical thinking
4. Blogging is a powerful medium for increasing access and exposure to quality information
5. Blogging combines the best of solitary reflection and social interaction

Take note that the article was first released in 2005. We are now in 2008 and the blogging phenomenon is even on greater heights. How many have become superstars because of this blogging thing? How many got rich? How many have become instant analysts/journalists/critic (economic, political, or sports)? How many movies/books/plays/artworks have been reviewed (or even spoiled)? How many have found their selves because of this new level of social interaction? How many have discovered it easier to access fresh and quality information in the internet? Spread before our very eyes rich ideas and information not often found in the four corners of our classrooms and work stations.

If you have not done some brain exercises lately and just contented yourself with the routines of work, home, eat and sleep, you may try blogging instead. A lot of people blog these days, even the famous and the notorious personalities.
