MISS CEBU 2009: Who will be the 25th loveliest Cebuana?

The Pacific Grand Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino will experience an illustrious night of glitz and glamour, pomp and pageantry, as past Miss Cebu beauties witness the quest for their 25th successor, the young lady whose crown will be relinquished by reigning queen Sian Elizabeth Maynard.

Celebrating its Silver Anniversary, the Miss Cebu continues to search for no less than the most exceptional lady that best defines the authentic characteristic of what a lovely Cebuana is, and how she lives up to her platform to make Cebu an even more captivating city both to come by and to live in.

For 25 years, this pageant has maintained its world-class production that can allegedly never even be compared with any of the major national beauty contests in Manila, much less its high-end presentation of its official candidates to spectators walking on the red carpets ? consistently, quite a number of whom are members of Cebu’s elite. Because the event is one of the highlights of the annual Sinulog festivity, a lot of tourists from both overseas and other parts of the country are customarily expected to come and watch.

To be telecast live on Studio 23 at 8:00 PM on January 14 (Wednesday), the 2009 Search for Miss Cebu (spearheaded by Cebu City Tourism Commission) will likewise pay tribute to Cebuana beauties who, in their respective current fields of endeavor, have made an exceptional mark, thus giving us Cebuanos 25 years (and beyond) of reason to be proud of our heritage. One of these is Miss Cebu 2006 second runner-up Karla Henry, the very first Filipina to have captured the Miss Earth crown, so far the one and only Cebuana to have won an international beauty title.

This year’s roster of candidates holds a promise of another exemplary lady who will serve as an ambassador of goodwill, a spokesmodel for young Cebuanas, a voice of Cebu to the world.

Twelve equally smart and charming candidates are vying for this year’s Miss Cebu crown and the Silver scepter as a token of her being the 25th loveliest Cebuana.

Like what I have done for these last few months, I am giving away 300, 200 and 100 ec credits to my top 3 droppers. Since EC will now tax these transfers, the winners will get their ECs while I will be burdened by the additional 12.5% tax. But it will not diminish the recognition, despite the annoying taxes. And from my top ten, I will randomly choose a winner for a week of 125×125 ad space in my blog. The last time, the one week became three weeks because I forgot to take the ads down. That was a bonus.

My Update On The Cebu SEO Contest

Right now, SEO experts, addicts, enthusiasts, wannabes and pretenders have joined the Cebu SEO Contest organized by Lhurey. There are still15 days to go before the contest is closed on September 2, 2008. Yet it seems like there is a new leader on SERP almost everyday.

I’ve been there once. That must be my lucky day! But right now, I’m on page 2. How to win on the Cebu SEO contest or any other SEO contests for that matter is a puzzle to many, but so easy for some. It is a puzzle for me though. I have not completed reading the SEO e-book in my hard drive and I have skipped some lines while browsing the blog entries of certain SEO experts. So my chances are definitely slimmer, unless luck strikes back on the final day.

Anyway, this is just a short entry and I don’t intend to flood this blog with 10 more posts about this contest. I know there are people out there who wouldn’t want to do anything with SEO because they feel it distorts the search engine, and bastardizes certain keywords. And I agree in part. But for most of the Cebu SEO contestants, including me, this is for fun and a learning experience.

It’s now time to publish and reward my top droppers. I am not sure if others are doing the same thing that I do: give links and ec credits. But I do hope that plenty will follow suit in the future. It’s a give and take community, and we are not really to make money out of those credits.

As per my instructions last month, I’ll recognize only the top 3. But from among the top 10, I will randomly choose a winner for a week of 125 x 125 ad space. I initially wrote 150 x 150, but since I changed my template, the space is reduced. So here goes my top 3:

EC love and easy link I give to my top 10 Entrecard droppers. I’ve done this a month ago, and I am doing it again this month. I’m giving 50 entrecard credits to my top 5 and 20 for the next 5 top droppers for the last 30 days.

But to make things more exciting next month, I’ll reward my top 3 droppers with 300, 200 and 100 entrecard credits. Of course, there’s the usual link in the post. I don’t know about your EC dropping strategy, but mine is so varied that it is not a strategy at all. I haven’t dropped beyond 150 a day. Normally, I’d only drop around 70. I kept a bookmark of around 50 blogs for my blogging rounds, then do drops from my inbox. If there is time, I also chain- drop. Dropping is not an obligation. It’s just rewarding one’s self with an entrecard credit while browsing blogs and the visited blog with credit, traffic and the chance to be read. Dropping is also letting other bloggers know that you dropped by. Of course, dropping cards should not be the reason and the end of the visit.
