Of Blogs and Board Exams
Under normal circumstances, I will not post any board results here unless I have certain connections to it. I did post bar exam results and architecture board results in the past because of friends who took the exams. Since I wanted to know first-hand how they fared, so I thought I might just as well make a post out of it. Nursing board exams? No way, Jose! It will be like committing suicide for this blog. My shared hosting package cannot take the rushing traffic. Besides, I am not the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), and blogs (or whatever site is out there) cannot and should not take the place of the official PRC website.
The main reason why bloggers post board exam results is web traffic. If done well, trafffic is converted to ppc income. In other words, CASH. It is not bad though. What is bad is a misleading and totally erroneous post. In this case, the wrong board exam results, or the wrong list. To miss out even a single name could be disastrous.
But when it comes to the CPA board exams, it is a different thing for me. There is always this urge in me to post the results, despite its unofficial tag. And I feel damned if I post it late. It’s a nice feeling to see the names of people who will be joining your profession. I’d also be elated if there’s a topnotcher coming from my alma mater. Go, USC! From what I’ve witnessed, schools from Cebu never ran out of CPA topnotchers.
Also, when I interview applicants who claim to be recent board passers, it is easy for me to verify their names since I have my own list. A little chitchat, and a secret glance at my post. “Aha, your name isn’t in the list” I imagined myself saying.
When it comes to web traffic, I don’t have to worry much because it is manageable even when you’re no.1 in Google. What is 80k pageviews in a single day? Most shared hosting can bear that. Easy!
So next week, I will be posting the list of passers of the May 2010 CPA board exams. The takers are currently preparing for the 2nd week of the exams. Exam dates are May 16, 17, 23 and 24. Tuesday or Wednesday next week, we will know of the results. It’s definitely way much faster than the computerized Philippine election results. Some of my friends were already preparing long and hard to be no. 1 on Google. An SEO race they say. So they simply did all the tricks they know to be on top for the keywords, “May 2010 CPA board exam results” or simply the “May 2010 CPA board exams”. Good luck to them!
