Tips When Coming for the Parade
When you come to Cebu, don’t forget to bring your cameras and extra batteries. It would be a very colorful parade and lots of celebrities and personalities are coming. But just some safety tips when you watch or join the parade:
- Watch for your belongings. Despite efforts of the local government to keep the known thieves in jail for the weekend, there are out-of-towners.
- Avoid the gangs and stay away from their hangouts. There had been frat brawls in the past.
- Stay fit, use comfortable footwear and bring bottled water with you. There will be long walks. At the end of the day, you may find yourself fatigued and dehydrated.
Where to stay in Cebu for Sinulog 2009
First and foremost, consider staying with your relatives. This is a fiesta and most pinoys welcome relatives to their homes. If you’re not invited or not welcome at their homes, consider your friends and classmates. But mind you, they also have their visiting relatives.
If you have a little money to spare and don’t want to bother your friends and relative, or in just a backpacking mode, there is a newly-opened bed and bath hotel at the Reclamation Area. It is called Sugbutel, with 350 beds and fully airconditioned. The new facility offers individual beds or bunks equipped with curtains, electrical socket and a safety box to secure hand-carry bags at P250 per person per night. Very affordable, right?
If you have a bigger budget, there are plenty of hotels around Fuente Osmeña (P800-P2,000 per night). Most of the party actions are within the vicinity. But by this time, I guess they are fully reserved already, but just try making a reservation. You may explore around and visit also the resorts in Mactan. Cebu is really a beautiful place to visit.

Friends,
Miss Cebu has always been one of the biggest events in town to look forward to each year. This year’s pomp and pageantry will take place come January 14 (Wednesday night at
at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino’s Pacific Grand Ballroom… to be telecast live on Studio 23.
Two of the aspirants are members of A.D. Models Philippines (managed by friend Dexter Alazas), the same agency that takes care of Miss Earth Karla Henry. They are Candidate #12 Kris Janson and Candidate # 9 Michelle Iva Eguia (Isa). Both are equally gorgeous yet qualified to be crowned as Miss Cebu 2009.
One of the special awards to be given out during the coronation night will be Miss Internet (or something like that). Hence, I’m inviting as many people as far as this generic message goes to vote for the one candidate who deserves the award more than the others. I’ve talked to most of the girls, and while every one is entitled for the title, there’s one who stands out on account of her platform to make the most of her reign by teaching young Cebuano women the essence of body image (read: so that they should stop worrying about their weight, size, height, color, and whatnot). With that alone (among many others), we bet she should win not only the Miss Internet special award but, of course, the most coveted title of Miss Cebu 2009.
I’m talking about Candidate # 9 Michelle Iva Eguia (Isa). She’s currently a Dean’s Lister at the Center for International Education on her Business Management studies. Not only does she have the wits, the brains, the smarts and the gift of gab, but more importantly, she has a very passionate heart. Her sunny disposition makes her stand out amongst the girls; her fluency bespeaks her spirituality in that she talks with a lot of sense and substance as a by-product of her pure thoughts and pacific emotions.
Now, with all of the above, why can’ t she be the next Miss Cebu?
Anyhow, there are voting booths at SM City and at the Ayala Center which you can utilize for free.
To vote through Globe, text VOTE(space)FOR(space)MSCEBU(space)ISA and send to 2278.
To vote using the internet, kindly go to http://www.cebucitytourism.com/ms_cebu_2009 and follow the links leading to Candidate # 9 Michelle Iva “Isa” G. Eguia.
I guess, the safest or easiest way to get to the link is by simply copying the URL below and pasting the same in the address bar:
http://cebucitytourism.com/ms_cebu_2009/candidates.html?contestant=9
Thank you very much. Rest assured, Michelle Iva Eguia is going to make a perfect Miss Cebu should we give her the chance to prove her worth. May God bless us all!
Sincerely,
Ariel Allera

If there is anything that would define a bad business company for 2008, it would be carelessness, incompetence and lack of care for clients. Cebu Pacific perfectly fits the bill. In my view, they are the worst company in the whole country all year long.
Up until now, these passenger horror stories continue to happen: Very long delayed flights (up to 17 hours), unexplained cancellations, long delays of refunds, lost luggage, hidden charges, etc. Every month, there is always something bad that happens, and the victims are quite many.
Just this past Christmas Eve, my ten friends and cousins from Manila were supposed to have Noche Buena here in Cebu and took Cebu Pacific’s mid-afternoon flight. Unfortunately for them, their flight was delayed by five hours due to “technical adjustments”, according to the much-criticized airline. All because of Cebu Pacific, our reunion and celebration got spoiled!
The pathetic service does not end. It is also clear that Cebu Pacific’s corporate officials display arrogance and a lack of care for their clients. They simply dismissed every complaint without giving any detailed explanations at all. Even if you fax or send them via mail a complaint or letter of concern, they will never respond to you.
Because Cebu Pacific’s service is often terrible and that their officials don’t really care about their clients, they gave us Cebuanos a bad image all over the nation and in some parts of the world!
Luckily for us Cebuanos and travelers, we’ve got other alternative airlines to take when traveling by air. We’re also lucky that Cebu Pacific does not have a monopoly of flight routes.
Could you just imagine how Cebu Pacific could take part in ruining our nation’s tourism industry? Could you imagine how Cebu Pacific’s poor services could turn potential tourists and investors away from Cebu?
All in all, Cebu Pacific’s flights are cheap but not so much compared to other airlines. Just a mere few hundreds in difference. Worse, even if you pay low rates, Cebu Pacific often fails to live up to its promises. First and foremost, we pay fares not only to fly but also to get to our destination in due time. Cebu Pacific does not care about that because they are obsessed in profiting at the expense of the traveler.

hi, guys.
I’m from Cebu but I’ve been living here in Manila for a few years now. The Sinulog is actually one of the things I miss about Cebu. Definitely, it’s a very colorful and exciting event.
I so wish I could be there.
Nice blog you got here.

How far in advance do you recommend making hotel reservations at Fuente, for Sinulog?
Also, the 800P-2,000P price range seems a bit LOW for the Fuente location. Do you have any recommendations for the 800P-1,000P range?
Thank you,

owen, low-priced hotels around fuente include the shamrock hotel and the sampaguita suites. you may also stroll around llorente street (at the back of mcdo/shakeys) or at juana osmena (that street with national bookstore).
