6 Things Bloggers Want From A Blog They Read and Follow

Do you ever wonder why some blogs are popular and the others are not? Or just consider your own choices of the blogs you follow. Is it because they have marketed theirselves to you, or you just stumbled upon them and got hooked?

If you desire to be noticed and read by other bloggers, consider these 6 things bloggers want from the blogs they read and follow. It could be just one, any combination or all of the six. Some want this and the others want that. You may develop your blogging strategies around these and replicate the success of others who have led the way.

1. Style - Even if the blogger does not want the info you have on your post, but since you got excellent and effective (or even entertaining) writing style, there is a greater possibility that they come back to read. Think of these as something we want as a pastime, or the luxury items we want to buy but don’t necessarily need. Any post, despite the simplicity of the topic chosen, could become popular among bloggers if written with an effective style.

2. Great information – There are blogs I follow, that despite being inferiorly written, contain useful information. I don’t know how it is to you, but most prefer the cake over the icing. Under this are:

a. Tips to make (or save) more money online – The simpler, the better. Many bloggers got curious about this topic when it surfaced in the blogosphere a couple of years ago. The famous bloggers now were not yet earning six-digit annual figures then. When they were starting out, they also gave out tips along the way. The tips were not necessarily filled with jargons, but were easy to understand.

b. Tips to improve your blogging statistics – These days, who wouldn’t want rankings, traffic, subscribers and readers. If you are going to write tips about improving one’s stats, then it would certainly attract attention from other bloggers.

c. SEO tips – To repeat what has been repeated, SEO is an excellent marketing tool for your online and offline business. When you have an online business that isn’t related to blogging, you certainly need to learn about search engine optimization. Bloggers, on the other hand, need to learn SEO to promote their articles, though I must admit that a post about SEO would have a hard time in the crowded search engine.

d. Latest News – Whether it is about technology, politics or entertainment, bloggers want fresh news.

3. Site decors – It could be the blog design, those widgets in the sidebars, or the plug-ins bloggers use. Bloggers who just started out may have a very bare design. But come back after a quarter, and their blogs will be full of decors. Where did they get the idea? From other bloggers of course. Bloggers don’t necessarily want to see ads from the blogs they read, but they would like to plaster theirs (just the minimum perhaps).

4. Attention – Bloggers need attention, either from the blog authors or from other readers. Even commenting has become a strategy to draw attention. Bloggers keep on coming back to blogs whose owners respond to their comments, and/or reciprocate a visit. Snub them, and they’ll snub you.

5. Freebies and giveaways – I got several free ebooks courtesy of bloggers who offer them in exchange for email or feed subscription. Popular bloggers offer freebies once in a while, and their ardent followers race to relay the message. And you know what will happen next.

But when you, as a start up blogger, promises a prize or some freebies, be sure to deliver it. Or else you will be known as a fake in the blogosphere.

6. Focus – Plenty of bloggers want your single post or a series of post but not necessarily liking your blog as a whole. They seem to demand that your blog has to have a focus, hence the subscribing and the unsubscribing. Oftentimes, in blog reviews, plenty will refer to the blog’s focus. What is the board result doing in a blog about blogging? Or why the post about travel, when you are writing about SEO tips?

There are of course, bloggers who do not know what they want from other blogs because they are too focused on their own. And you can also ignore the bloggers, and turn your focus on the search engine users and other sources of traffic.

But as long as you are in the blogosphere, you cannot disregard the bloggers. And as you interact with them and look at your blog and your posts, do you have the anything to offer to other bloggers when they come and visit your blog?

You have a good list here, but since you asked me then I have one which I learned from the recent event I attended - The blogger should be sociable online and offline. This is because blogging is a form of communication, not a book or a public speech.

Even if a blogger can make quality content and useful tips, and can promote it well, everything will be useless if he cannot interact with his readers online, and face to face.

I missed you in the recent event, but you can see some of the photos on my post.

Hope you will be available next time.

    Thanks!

    Bro,

Honestly, mas focused na ko ngayon sa pagsusulat ng mga write-ups in the sense na “compartmentalized” na ang mga articles ko. In fact I have created so many blogs where I could publish all imaginable articles online. Dati kasi iisa ang blog ko at halu-halo talaga ang mga topics (tapos merong pang mga $$$ articles). I still do some $$$ articles but not as much as before. Nakakasawa rin sa totoo lang.

Now, I’m trying so hard to come up with outlined articles for most of my sites. Parang curriculum development sabi nga ng misis ko. Mahirap, time-consuming, laborious at nakakaistorbo sa offline jobs ko but I think it’s really worth it. I know in the long run dun ako magsa-succeed as an online publisher. (SANA). Hahaha!

I usually prioritize the blogs of my friends more than other sites. I am also more comfortable to comment and share my ideas with blogmates. I feel like something’s missing if I won’t visit and read updates about them. Even if I’m super busy I still drop a visit as a lurker and a silent reader, and I’m always around.

Sometimes, it’s not really the content that I want from the blog, it’s more of the relationship that matters. This could be related to #4 on your list (though for me, friendship is more apt than getting attention) and as what Angel commented about being a sociable blogger both online and offline.

jessie, i can see that in your three blogs. i read even your entertainment blog. perhaps, i’d bookmark your humor blog too. ;)

carey, seems like we’re similar in this are. but there are blogs (i mean big blogs) that I follow wherein i’m just one of their readers and/or commenters. no special blogging relationship or whatever. but since they respond to a comment or receiprocate a visit (even just once), there’s the difference.

As to your ad, it’s been there three weeks. Bonus yan ha! :)
