I got my Nokia N82 last Friday and it’s been three long years since I upgraded. My Nokia 6230i is already in bad physical shape but it functions fully well. Good thing I can purchase the old phone for P1, and got this N82 for free on a 30-month locked-in period with Smart for plan 1800. N82 sells at P16,000 to P18,000 ($350 - $400) in the local market. It was first introduced in the Philippines in the last quarter of 2007.

General features of the Nokia N82 include:

This is not a sports blog, but it does not mean that I will not write about sports. I will, especially if its concerns the most famous Filipino athlete today: Manny Pacquiao, current WBC Lightweight Champion. He is scheduled to fight Oscar De La Hoya, the famous Golden Boy, and champion of six different weight classes, on December 6, 2008 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. They will fight at the welterweight limit of 147 lbs.
UPDATE: Pacquiao won via TKO at the end of round8. It was such a mismatch, contradicting the predictions of many boxing experts. I was shocked to see De La Hoya moving so slow, making an easy target of the strong punches of the Pacman.
I’m sure the sports scribes and even the lowliest of fans already had some sort of predictions and analysis forming in their minds. So, who do you think will win this fight? What is your fight results prediction?
Oscar Beats Manny

Recent reports put the number of unemployed nurses in the Philippines at around 150,000. And this figure will continue to increase in the next few years considering the number of nursing students lately. Though these nurses can apply anywhere from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Canada, UK to nearby Singapore, the United States remain the most attractive of these destinations. Two things differentiate the USA dream: The salary of nurses and the immigrant visa.
My wife is a registered nurse and we are at the final stages of our immigration application for the United States. The current retrogression somewhat delayed everything, even though demand for nurses in the US is still very high, and expected to further increase in 2025, when the baby boomers will reach retirement age. The October 2008 visa bulletin had been released lately and there now seems a ray of hope for the nurses. The priority dates had moved too, though not the ones we expected.

Many months ago, I saw a few blogs from the entrecard community that displays the Nuffnang logo. I wonder where they are from since they are not Filipinos or Westerners. I didn’t bother to check though, as I was not yet ready to put ads in my site.
Two weeks ago, I hopped into Ambo’s site that announced the arrival of Nuffnang Philippines. I read his entire post and head on the Nuffnang site to register. What is Nuffnang? Here’s an excerpt from their blog:

There are plenty of Pinoy SEO experts and enthusiasts these days, unlike a year ago when most of the bloggers I know were simply personal bloggers, and the method used to increase readership is thru building relationships with other like-minded bloggers. I say I miss those days. But blogging has evolved and the number of bloggers had increased exponentially in which expression and content are not the only things that matter for the blogger.
Then enter blog monetization, rankings, social networking and SEO. The objectives are to increase blog visibility, web traffic, and the monetary opportunities. Here are some web traffic news I gathered from the blogs I read the last 30 days:

Like I have done last month, I am giving away 300, 200 and 100 ec credits to my top 3 droppers. And from my top ten, I will randomly choose a winner for a week of 125×125 ad space in my blog. I should add “easy ad space” on my title.
Here the top three droppers here (two were tied at third):

It’s now September and the October 2008 CPA board exam is fast approaching. Those planning to take the exam should know that the CPA board exam is notoriously difficult with a very low passing percentage despite the test’s computerization. Aside from the difficulty, there are also changes in the accounting standards almost every year. What we learned a decade ago may no longer be applicable today.
Here are some useful tips for passing the Philippine CPA Board Exam:
1. Plan ahead – The best preparation is your undergraduate years. There are accountancy students who take this for granted. Some aren’t even sure whether they are in the right course or not. But as I observed in my “serious” classmates a decade ago, they were already practicing the review materials even in their third year. Planning ahead includes your plan to take a review, where to review and when to take the board. Also, you have to check your credentials whether you pass the required minimum requirements for you to take the exam.

Hurricane Gustav, a category 3 storm that had already damaged the Caribbean and killed 94 people in its path, is expected to land at New Orleans today.
With the devastating effects of Katrina and Rita in 2005, there is no other choice this time. Even for a nation as advanced as the USA, evacuating 2 million people is necessary. The people on the path of Hurricane Gustav should immediately evacuate or risk their lives. Strong winds at 115mph and increasing, heavy storms and flooding, zero-electricity; these are all expected in this kind of situation.
