Why Should I Link To You?
I don’t know how you value links. But for some, getting a link from another site is of much value. Much more if that link comes from sites with high page ranks. You know the page rank, monetization, SERP and all those blah blah blahs about it.
But there are others who don’t link for the page rank. They give and take links but just for the sake of having links, and nothing more. Yeah, more of the socializing thing. However, we also have to take note that Google penalizes blogs giving out too much links and those who sell links that passes page ranks. As to how much is too much really depends on Google.
Why should I link to you? I know that a lot of bloggers are not very generous with their links, but I will just answer that question with my very own experience. And theses are really very simple reasons.
Because We Are Friends
I linked my friends’ blogs. Do you? I also linked to the blogs of the bloggers I met in a gathering. Friends deserve a link and I don’t require them to work for it.
Because I Appreciate You
Like the top ten entrecard droppers. EC love and easy link, or whatever contests that I may have in the future.
Because I Like Your Site
Others don’t link to the blogs they like. They bookmark them or simply subscribe to them. And lately, I’m doing just that without necessarily linking. But I will include a link in a post at some future time.
Because You Ask For A Link and You Linked to Me
Ex-link? It depends, really. Some are pissed off by people who hop into a site for the first time then ask to exchange links. I don’t also like those kind of people (sometimes I don’t really mind). And I certainly don’t hop and ask for ex-links. I believe that one has to establish relationship first before requesting for ex-links. And the other party is not really obliged to return the favor.
Because of Tags
So far, there are no tags in here. I’ll just keep it that way. But I have tags in my other blogs and I have a few undone assignments.
Because You Pay Me
Alright, I’m not yet selling links in this blog with PR3 and an Alexa of a little over 200k . But if someone offers a proposal I couldn’t refuse, then why not. May Google take it easy on us.
Now, what are your criteria for linking to a site?

Hmm I link when I enjoy reading the blog, I reciprocate the link when somebody added me and they are not asking a linkback, Most of the times, I don`t link but they are in my Firefox bookmark or google reader.

Amen to all the reasons you posted. You’ve said it all, Von. I personally linked you because you’re one of the few people I knew from Istorya (when I started Faery Dancing) and who have been very helpful to me. Your blog posts are always very interesting and informative, and I love reading them. I’m even more justified in linking you up upon knowing that you’re a fellow Iskolar ng Bayan. Keep it going, Von! =)

I agree with all the reasons posted above and I usually follow the same policy. However, I do not appreciate readers who try to coerce you to link back by saying, “I’ve linked you, hope you’ll link back.”

Hi Laz,
because we are friends/blogmates, you SHOULD link to my travel blog. LOL. bitaw uy, let’s exchange links with my happysteps.net …. I will link you up because I LIKE your site too (aside sa being friends). Actually I haven’t been exchanging many links with my travel blog as compared to my ideasnpink blog. Your post made me think about adding more travel links to it. I am just too lazy sometimes to exchange links. I am more of the bookmark type blogger. I just bookmark my fave sites and organize them according to topics. salamat daan. musta na ang Cebu?

Bro,
I usually link to others for 2 reasons: I was paid to do so and I like the blogger (or he’s my friend). These things in the blogosphere are sometimes ignored by many (especially the second reason). Now, to cut the sentiments short, I’ll link to you in my blogroll.

I liked reading this entry, You have have pointed out the very obvious of reasons, but apparently a lot of people still don’t know how obvious it is.
And since we’ve met a while back, that triggered our “blogging relationship” and that’s why we’ve linked each other’s blogs.

I give free links for those who regularly visit my blog & interact with my readers. I wont consider any other criteria while giving links.

Here is the big post everyone USED to talk about! When I started blogging, Technorati and link farming was the way, plain and simple. Everyone using awards and memes as disguised “link me link me cries for help”.
Number one, as you have eluded to, links from less than PR4 have not much value, and a bunch of links from PR0 is a negative. You actually drop your own rank by having an influx of “helping bloggers”.
I guess back then (years back) I saw the whole thing as kind of a chess game. Counting and comparing links with others. Right now? I have a PR5 and the least amount of links to me ever.
Makes you just want to write for fun, no? That is what my blog has evolved to. For fun, and that’s where it ends.
I know many try and gain high PR to make more money with ads, but I have watched almost all of these type of blogs get branded by the big Google 0 at one time or another. Catch 22
Anyhoo, hello from SpeedyCat Hollydale! I am over from Ecard.
