May 2008 Philippine CPA Board Exam Results

Posted by ceblogger on May-20-2008

The results of the May 2008 Philippine Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Board Exam is posted here. Feel free to scroll down and read more. This for the exams held last May 11-12 and 18-19, 2008 in the different cities in the Philippines. I felt like posting the results here because I once took the CPA board exam and passed it on my first take in October 1995. Whew! How time flies so fast!

Passing the CPA board exam is one of my life’s greatest moments. I remember that day when the results came in the paper, a neighbor visited our house and brought the good news. I rushed to the nearest newsstand and there grabbed a Philippine Star, the only one at that time that carried the complete and readable results. (We don’t have the internet yet at that time). I was so happy for myself and for my friends who made it. I was even happier for my friends who landed on the top three.

I know the thrill and excitement of waiting for the results. Even non-takers, friends and relatives of examinees are excited of browsing the results hoping for a familiar name. My staffs here are busy surfing the net for the results. I gave them the result as soon I got the file from a friend.

To the new CPA’s, my congratulations! Welcome to the fold!

Is Blogging Just A Waste Of Time?

Posted by ceblogger

Some people actually said this and think of blogging as an unproductive use of one’s time. Do you or do you not agree?

Here are the general arguments:
1. You are not paid to blog. If you are, the pay is not enough.
2. You don’t write so well and might just be wasting your readers’ time.
3. Addiction will lead you to neglect the more important things. Like your meal, for instance.
4. Blogging is not the only way to release your creativity.
5. Blogs just showcase the ego of its authors.
6. Blogging is just a fad that will die a natural death.

Economics

Blogging has really gone a long long way since 2004, and more people now are aware of the power of blogs. There are many ways to monetize one’s blog, and some even had revenues far greater than the amount they get from their day jobs. In some cases, it’s the advertisers who approach the blog owners. Let us not forget though that argument no.1 is based on practicality and economics. If you are earning tens of thousands a day, and your passion is other than writing, then don’t blog. But even if you are not paid to blog, no one should stop you because not every action is motivated by money.

Aesthetics

Who says that you have to write well to be read? Or that you should have a professional looking site to get noticed. Although that is the general rule for professional bloggers, it is not applicable to all. Some readers prefer entertainment rather than information, and the blog authors rather than the blog content.

Addiction

This is not to be confused with passion. Ok, ok. We have to be responsible bloggers. Give up TV time, worry time, LQ time and other idle time. But not work and family time.

Outlet for Creativity

While it is true, you can blog and still play the piano or the guitar. You might even compile your blog entries and publish a book. Or you can paint and blog at the same time.

Ego

I think this one is very subjective. To share valuable information does not equate to being egotistic. Though sometimes, egos bloat because of high PR, subscribers, visits and earnings. But these are just quantifiable measures of success in blogging. And the author should not be judged by what he writes or what he displays in his blog.

Fad

It will last longer than the critics’ predictions. Blogging is a dynamic activity. It will continue to evolve, and will continue to draw converts.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I’ll leave you a philosophical quote from Bertrand Russell: “The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.”

If you enjoy blogging, keep on! It’s better than worrying and doing nothing.
