May 2008 Philippine CPA Board Exam Results

Posted by ceblogger on May-20-2008

The results of the May 2008 Philippine Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Board Exam is posted here. Feel free to scroll down and read more. This for the exams held last May 11-12 and 18-19, 2008 in the different cities in the Philippines. I felt like posting the results here because I once took the CPA board exam and passed it on my first take in October 1995. Whew! How time flies so fast!

Passing the CPA board exam is one of my life’s greatest moments. I remember that day when the results came in the paper, a neighbor visited our house and brought the good news. I rushed to the nearest newsstand and there grabbed a Philippine Star, the only one at that time that carried the complete and readable results. (We don’t have the internet yet at that time). I was so happy for myself and for my friends who made it. I was even happier for my friends who landed on the top three.

I know the thrill and excitement of waiting for the results. Even non-takers, friends and relatives of examinees are excited of browsing the results hoping for a familiar name. My staffs here are busy surfing the net for the results. I gave them the result as soon I got the file from a friend.

To the new CPA’s, my congratulations! Welcome to the fold!

Free Wi-Fi In Cebu

Posted by ceblogger

Sometimes I wish that some free Wi-Fi signal reach our home so that I can this blog at the comfort of our home. Maybe not tonight, but I really hope it will happen sooner.

Max Limpag wrote in his blog (and published in today’s Sunstar) that the Municipality of Argao has a free Wi-Fi access at its plaza. It is made possible through the effort of its municipal government who wants to give tourists and residents access to the world wide web. Argao is located some 66kms south of Cebu and is famous for its beaches (including Argao beach Club), Mt. Lantoy (Maria Cacao legend) and the hometown of retired SC Chief Justice Hilario Davide. It is also my paternal grandmother’s hometown.

Now I have a very good reason to bring my laptop when I go to my granduncle’s place.

So what about in Cebu City? We are really quite behind in this. There are many free Wi-Fi hotspots in Davao, Iloilo, Cagayan and Bacolod. But not so in Cebu. I think someone in Cebu should take the lead for this. From what I know and experienced, these are the free hotspots near my home in Mandaue:

1. Sykes - all the food establishments in the building have free Wi-Fi access. But I love the food at Quadro, slush at Ela Puti, bread at Betty’s, and of course there is McDo and Bo’s Coffee. Or maybe if you just stand at their hallway you can already access the internet. I haven’t tried it though from their parking lot.

2. Mr. Coffee at Paseo - free access for consumption of at least P100. I had my car washed at Nice Day and I just walk to Paseo on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Coffee tastes great there too.

3. Creams and Bakes (AS Fortuna) - It’s fronting Joven’s Grill. The cakes are inexpensive, nicely-decorated and yummy too. They also serve great-value food for lunch and dinner. If you’re full, just try their ice cream. I really love its taste.

So, there are the 3 places that I frequent. They are very near my place. And I am promoting them here for free, because of their excellent food and beverages, and of course, the free Wi-Fi connection.
